Kuala Lumpur, 8 Feb 2021 (The Capital Post)- Former Prime Minister Najib Razak shows his dissatisfaction over the governments ineffective handling of the Covid-19 pandemic while referring to a recent survey report from United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
In his recent Facebook post he states, 63% from the survey can no longer afford to cover daily expenses including buying kitchen items and paying bills, poverty rate among families at 42%, unemployment has doubled since last year when Conditional movement control order (CMCO) was conducted since Oct 2020 and the number of unemployed increased from Sept 2020 to 15% in Dec 2020 with one in three households unemployed, sighting to the survey report from UNICEF.
“What are the benefits that the people have gained from the 27 days of half-cooked PKP 2.0 so far?”, asked Najib.
He also states that current MCO 2.0 is even harder for Malaysians to survive due to the used up saving during the first MCO and current reduced amount of government assistance with the Covid-19 cases steadily on rise.
“Therefore, I have repeatedly told the government to do MCO properly and very strictly with the appropriate government assistance so that the effect is short and does not need to be extended many times”, he added.
The Pekan MP also believes that speculation of many people that the government is deliberately complacent for the MCO 2.0 so that the emergency can be extended is not true.
“If this UNICEF report is true then the government has failed to take care of the people”, says Najib.
The current MCO 2.0 is extended until Feb 18 except for Sarawak while the PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced strict measures will be taken on offenders of MCO, last week in a special address.-The Capital Post
