KUALA LUMPUR: The government will consider two factors in formulating the guidelines on Hari Raya celebration – if the movement control order (MCO) will still be in effect and if the curve of Covid-19 infection has been flattened.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said several discussions were held involving the National Fatwa Council and the Health Ministry on the matter.

“We will look into whether or not the MCO will be extended past the Hari Raya celebration,” he said on Thursday (April 30).

“I was also included in the daily meeting with the National Security Council chaired by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” he added.

On whether or not his ministry had come up with guidelines on terawih prayers and the weekly Friday prayers at mosques, the minister said this matter, too, was still being discussed.

“We have to consider all factors including safety and health to ensure that we come up with the best guidelines,” he said.

He was met after an aid-giving ceremony held at Masjid Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi in Wangsa Maju here.

At the ceremony, the minister said the Federal Territories Islamic Council (MAIWP) spent about RM13mil from its zakat fund to give financial aid to 26,400 needy folk during Ramadan.

Also present were MAIWP chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussein Al Habshee and chief executive officer Datuk Akbar Samon. – The Star
