SUNGAI PETANI: A three-year-old boy died after being left inside the car of his kindergarten principal on Tuesday (March 16).
The victim’s parents have a prior arrangement with the 49-year-old principal for the latter to provide transport to and from the kindergarten every Tuesday and Wednesday.
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said preliminary investigations revealed that the kindergarten principal allegedly left the toddler in her car that was parked outside the kindergarten for more than four hours.
“At 12.15pm, when the principal wanted to take the boy home, she realised that the boy was not in class after one of her teachers told her that the boy was absent from school.
“When she rushed to the vehicle, the victim was already unconscious,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 17).
ACP Adzli said the kindergarten principal then contacted the hospital and tried to revive the victim by doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but the victim was still lying motionless.
He said the victim was then brought to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah with an ambulance but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
ACP Adzli said the principal was arrested by police to assist in investigations and a postmortem would be conducted on the child to establish the cause of death.
He said the case will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.- The Star
