The Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman said he would not seek reelection and would also stay out of the party’s central executive committee polls.

Teng joined DAP about 30 years ago and has been in the CEC for 24 years.

In a Fecebook post today, he said DAP had new and capable talent who could take his place, adding that his departure would be in the best interest of the party and the country.

“I have relentlessly given my best to help build the nation, especially Selangor, and I will leave it to the people and to history to judge me.

“I was unexpectedly fortunate to have been reappointed as a Selangor exco member in 2018. I consider it to be divine intervention,” he said, adding that he wanted a graceful departure after completing his term of office.

Teng said he believed those succeeding him would be able to “scale new heights of what we have achieved thus far in the foreseeable future”.

“Although I opt to exit, I will stay by the sidelines to cheer my comrades on and to share the joy of their future successes.”

However, he said his decision did not mean that he would slow down in carrying out his duties in the two years left in office, adding that he would go all-out until the state assembly was dissolved.

“Only countdown, no slowdown,” he added.

Teng was first elected as Bukit Gasing assemblyman in 1995 before moving to represent Bandar Klang in 1999. The constituency’s name was changed to Sungai Pinang, and later to Bandar Baru Klang.

Being the sole DAP assemblyman in Selangor in 1999, he had witnessed the party grow tohaving the most elected representatives in the state assembly. There are now 16 DAP representatives in the 56-member assembly. – FMT
