The latest generation of chipsets is boosting the performance of the smartphones arriving on the market at the end of the year. However, most of them are Chinese-made and will probably never make it onto the European market.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro is now the world’s most powerful smartphone, according to the renowned AnTuTu performance index, with a new record average score of 2,932,124.

The other podium spots are taken by the Vivo X200 Pro and the Oppo Find X8 Pro. The Top 10 comprises Chinese devices exclusively, with models from iQoo, Honor and Xiaomi.

What all these smartphones have in common is that they feature the very latest chipsets from Qualcomm (Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition) and MediaTek (Dimensity 9400), which is why the most powerful iPhone, the 16 Pro Max, comes a long way behind.

Many of these phones will probably not be available outside the Chinese market and certain other Asian countries. This is because of the stringent safety and environmental standards, sometimes forcing manufacturers to offer smartphones specially tailored to the European market.

What’s more, the European market is currently saturated by major players such as Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi. Under these conditions, it’s hard to break through, especially at the top end of the market.

AnTuTu is a Chinese benchmark tool that compiles a multitude of data to establish an index evaluating the performance of all smartphones on the market. The data was collected between Nov 1 and 30, 2024.
