PUTRAJAYA: Despite its acronym Muda, which means young in Malay, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will not impose an age limit on anyone wanting to become members of the multi-racial party.
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the party was for those who shared a common goal and struggle, which is to move Malaysia away from the politics of the past.
“We want to move away from the politics of vengeance, politics of division.
“We want to reboot and refresh Malaysian politics,” he told reporters after an appointment at the Registrar of Societies’ headquarters here to formally seek Muda’s registration yesterday.
However, he acknowledged that the party leadership would be made up of individuals whom he described as young and dynamic and from different backgrounds.
Syed Saddiq said many had indicated their interest to join Muda. “They are keen to bring new politics into the country so that we will no longer be bogged down with old politics that has made it difficult for us to move forward,” he said.
Muda, he added, would be a multi-racial party and would represent all levels of the society.
“Muda will be a party for all races and religions whose leaders, the majority of whom, will be young individuals,” he said. -The Star
