BUTTERWORTH: Two former DAP members contesting as Independents in the Penang state elections on Saturday (Aug 12) have pledged to continue backing the unity government and caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow’s leadership if they are elected.
In a joint press conference on Wednesday (Aug 9), Satees Muniandy (Bagan Dalam) and David Marshel (Prai) dismissed talk that they are throwing their support behind Perikatan Nasional.
“We are not supporting any other Penang assemblyman, including from Perikatan, as the next chief minister.
“We will also object to any motion tabled to amend the state constitution’s two-term limit for the chief minister’s post,” Satees said.
Both candidates also signed an “Aku Janji” (I pledge) document to underscore these pledges.
Satees, the incumbent Bagan Dalam assemblyman, and Marshel, a former Seberang Prai Municipal Council member, left DAP just before Nomination Day on July 29. – Bernama
