GEORGE TOWN: Penang has decided not to declare Aug 12 as a special state holiday for the state election.
“However, employers are reminded to give priority and opportunity for employees who are working to go out and vote,” said caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow in a Facebook post Tuesday (Aug 8).
Earlier, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng had urged the state government to declare Aug 12 as a public holiday to ensure high voter turnout.
Lim said this during the launch of the Pakatan Harapan -Barisan Nasional manifesto on the mainland on Aug 1.
The former chief minister had said a higher turnout would ensure a victory for Pakatan and Barisan.
