SUNGAI PETANI: A schoolgirl broke her arm while 15 other pupils escaped with minor injuries when a school van they were traveling in skidded into a drain in Tikam Batu here today.
State Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the van driver, in his 50s, suffered minor head injuries in the incident.
Ehsan said firemen from the Tikam Batu Fire Station were dispatched to the scene near Taman Rhu following a distress call made at 7.40am.
“Based on initial information, the driver lost control of the vehicle before it skidded into the drain and crashed.
“During the incident, the van was taking 16 pupils to school. Fortunately, none of the pupils were pinned inside the vehicle that fell on its left side,” he said in a statement.
Ehsan said the victims were 10 boys and six girls aged between seven and 12 years old. They were rushed to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.-NST
