KOTA KINABALU: After tourism workers yesterday, those in the agriculture sector will now benefit from a one-off aid of RM300 from the Sabah government.
Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey Kitingan today announced total financial aid of RM34,874,400 to lessen the negative impact of Covid-19 on the agricultural sector in the state.
Kitingan, who is also state agriculture and food industry minister, said the fund will benefit 116,248 recipients registered under the ministry.
The rubber industry has the highest number of recipients at 48,756 (receiving over RM14 million), followed by 32,836 farmers (RM9.8 million) and 16,205 oil palm smallholders (RM4.8 million).
Fishermen, livestock breeders as well as cocoa and rural land development smallholders will also benefit from this aid.
Kitingan said those not on the list would also be considered for the cash aid as long as they are registered with the relevant departments or agencies.
The fund is part of the government’s total aid to assist B40 groups, which also include taxi drivers, bus drivers, lorry drivers, and tourism industry players. – FMT
