PETALING JAYA: As the 15th General Election looms, MCA has started its preparations to defend the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat and to recapture the Yong Peng state seat, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
Dr Wee said MCA’s machinery for the Bandar Yong Peng Tengah and Bandar Yong Peng Selatan polling districts met at the MCA division building nearby on Thursday night (Jan 6).
“MCA’s organising secretary Ling Tian Soon is making GE15 preparations for these two polling districts.
“We vow to defend the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat and to wrest back the Yong Peng state seat,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Friday (Jan 7).
In the 14th General Election in 2018, Dr Wee won the Ayer Hitam seat with 17,076 votes in a three-cornered fight against DAP’s Liew Chin Tong (16,773), and PAS’ Mardi Marwan (4,975).
Pakatan Harapan’s Chew Pek Choo won in a three-cornered fight in the Yong Peng seat with 12,307 votes against Ling’s 7,218 and PAS’ Muhammad Abdullah (1,243).
GE14 was held in May 2018 and the next general election will have to be called on or before July 2023.-The Star
