AFTER two years of service, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir will be stepping down on Friday (Oct 20).
In announcing his last day in the post, he said whether or not his tenure is extended would depend on the powers that be.
“I have received the letter to report to the Public Service Department. I will report on Monday,” he told StarMetro Thursday (Oct 19) after officiating at an MoU signing ceremony between MBPJ and Reneuco RE Sdn Bhd at the council’s headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
The MoU is for the installation of a solar photovoltaic panel system at the MBPJ Innovation Centre building in Kota Damansara.
Mohamad Azhan said he was grateful for the support he received in the last two years from stakeholders, state government leaders, MBPJ councillors and staff as well as Petaling Jaya residents.
“These two years have been joyful for my career. We carried out various projects that brought a positive impact to the people of Petaling Jaya.
“I hope MBPJ will continue to be a leading example to other local councils,” he said.
Mohamad Azhan took his oath as the new mayor on Oct 21, 2021.
He previously served as the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) post-disaster management division deputy director-general.
Mohamad Azhan has a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development from Universiti Malaya and 24 years’ experience in the civil service at state and ministry levels.
