PETALING JAYA: Differing opinions among PAS leaders over the Federal Government’s Hari Raya open houses in six states reveal there are internal differences within the party, claims Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung.

In a statement on Thursday (April 27), Lee also said the open houses should not be politicised as it was celebrated by everyone in the country.
“The statement of PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who objected to the open houses, is a sign of inconsistency with the stances of fellow PAS leaders.
“Previously, it was announced that Kelantan PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yaakob and Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, also from PAS, had welcomed the organising of the open houses.
“Then it was said that Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Takiyuddin, as PAS MPs, do not agree with it.
“Why did PAS in Terengganu and Kelantan agree but Kedah PAS and its central leadership turn it down?
“The conflicting stances from the same party seem to show there are some internal differences,” Lee said.

He then criticised the attitude of Perikatan Nasional leaders who politicised issues, including Hari Raya open houses.
“It should be noted that the government’s open house is an official event to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the people.
“State government leaders were also invited to join.
“Aidilfitri open houses in Malaysia are commonly celebrated and attended by people of various races as a sign of unity and goodwill.
“Responsible political parties should lower the heat of politics and focus on the issues of people’s lives and the economy.
“I appeal to my friends, whether from the government or the Opposition, to make us good citizens in this month of peace,” he said. – The Star
