KUALA LUMPUR: More than 800,000 senior citizens, aged 60 and above in the country, have yet to receive their Covid-19 booster shots.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said most of the Covid-19 related deaths involved the elderly, especially those yet to take the booster shot.
“864,450 elderly aged 60 years old and above have yet to receive their booster doses.
“Currently, the fatalities are focused on this group, especially those who have yet to be boosted.
“In this phase of transition to the endemic stage, we must protect high-risk groups such as our parents. Get them boosted,” he said in a Twitter posting today.
In a supplementary tweet, Khairy reminded the public to continue to stay safe and vigilant during the transition period.
“Alhamdulillah, the mosques are beginning to be full again for congregational prayers. Continue wearing your masks properly.
“Masking properly, especially indoors, with good ventilation is crucial in managing Covid-19,” he said.
Malaysia registered 12,380 new Covid-19 infections as of Sunday.
