Ops Black Cat uncovers drug processing lab in Kuching apartment

KUCHING: Sarawak police have uncovered a drug processing laboratory, operating from an apartment unit here, which mixes drugs with powdered juice drinks in sachets.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidil Ismail said the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department launched the operation, dubbed “Ops Black Cat” and raided the unit on June 9.

The team nabbed a 27-year-old man and seized numerous types of drugs, including 50 ecstasy pills, 320 Erimin-5 pills, 354g ketamine and 13.7kg juice which is believed to have been mixed with drugs, he said.

“The drugs (seized) were worth RM250,000 and could cater to the needs of 3,770 addicts,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak police headquarters here today.

He said the suspect, who is married and unemployed, has no past criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking drugs.

Aidil said the operation was launched following information and intelligence gathered from another operation – ‘Ops Parti Liar’ – against those involved wild or private parties during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

He said a total 41 people, aged between 18 and 41 were nabbed under the ‘Ops Parti Liar’ from May 29 to June 14.

“We have conducted six raids in Kuching and Padawan areas; five at private residences and one at an entertainment outlet which was not allowed to operate during the MCO.

We have nabbed 41 suspects including 10 foreigners for various drug offences,” he said.

He said the cases are being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A (2), Section 12 (2), and Section 15 (1) (A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.-NST
