The Padang Rengas MP dismissed a report in a news portal that claimed that tension is brewing among Umno lawmakers as some of them were purportedly backing Anwar.

“I personally have contacted all 23 Umno backbenchers and they told me none of them supported Anwar. There are irresponsible people trying to create disinformation about us. The report is not true and we are all united,” he said when contacted on Monday (Oct 12).

The report claimed that Umno MPs were divided into three groups consisting of those who support Anwar, those against, and fence-sitters who have yet to decide.

Anwar has been granted an audience with the King on Tuesday (Oct 13).

The Port Dickson MP in a statement said he would be presenting a document proving a “strong and convincing majority” consisting of parliamentarians.

Nazri said that Umno backbenchers have agreed that they would not act based on their own private capacity.

“Anwar did not contact us nor did we sign any statutory declaration supporting him,” said Nazri. -The Star
