MERSING: The police have received five reports from six victims following the arrest of a political party youth leader for allegedly sexually assaulting teenagers here.
Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the investigation papers will be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office on Wednesday (March 20), and the case is expected to be brought to court on Thursday (March 21).
“We initially received two police reports last night, but after our press statement was released, another three police reports were lodged by victims who were under the age of 15.
“We have arrested the suspect, and he is currently under remand until March 21. The suspect is expected to be charged at the Kota Tinggi court on Thursday,” he said in a statement here.
Supt Abdul Razak added that the case is being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent, which carries a maximum of 20 years in jail and whipping if found guilty.
“We hope the public will not speculate on the case as that could disrupt the investigations. Those with information on the case are urged to call the Mersing police headquarters hotline at 07-799 6224,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that a 36-year-old leader of the youth wing of a political party in the Mersing district was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy.
