KOTA KINABALU: A major landslide at KM96 of the Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road has cut off road links between the west and east coast of the state since 9.40pm Sunday (Dec 8).

The 80m-wide landslide has brought traffic to a standstill in the Ranau area while Public Works Department engineers and contractors are taking immediate action to create a diversion for traffic.
PWD have identified a 16km alternative route – Kg Dumpiring-Mohimboyon- Kibbas, Jalan Kibbas-Mohimboyon-Dumpuring, Jalan
Pinosuk Kauluan-Kundasang – for motorists to avoid the landslip-hit area.
“We are working on clearing the landslide that was triggered by rain, ” Sabah PWD director Richard Jomiji said when contacted Monday (Dec 9).
However, he could not say how long it would take to clear the affected landslide area for traffic to pass through.

“Motorists can use the diversions available for now, ” said Jomiji who was headed to the landslip area in Kundasang.
Continuing rains are hindering works to clear the landslip as mudflow continues in the area that sits between Kundasang town and Ranau along the Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road.
There were no reports of any casualties.
The Kundasang area along Mount Kinabalu’s Crocker Range is prone to landslides during the wet season. -The Star
