The Kelantan government, in collaboration with the Kelantan Museum Corporation, is targeting 10,000 museum passports to be used by the public, school children and students this year.
Kelantan Unity, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Committee chairman Major (Rtd) Datuk Md Anizam Ab Rahman said the RM10 museum passport is valid for life. This is the first time such a passport is introduced in the state.
It comes in two colours – red for schoolchildren and blue for the rest of the public.
“Passport holders can visit the nine museums in Kelantan for a one-off payment of only RM10 instead of paying the RM2 entry fee (at each site), ” he said at the launch of the passport at Gelanggang Seni in Kota Baru recently. The event was also attended by Kelantan Museum Corporation director Ahmad Shargowi Derahman.
Md Anizam also said schoolchildren who use the museum passport would earn co-curricular marks in school, as approved by the Kelantan Education Department.
“Their attendance at the museum using this passport will be counted as a co-curricular activity and they will get marks for participation at the state level, ” he said.
Ready to welcome
Meanwhile, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry said it is prepared with all the necessary standard operating procedures (SOP) should international borders be reopened for tourism activities.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the most important thing regarding the SOP is to go for a Covid-19 screening test before entering the country.
“Besides that, other related SOP include using registered tourism agents and travelling in small groups. The activities we’re targetting to reopen to foreign tourists are golf and outdoor activities such as snorkelling and diving, ” she said at an event in Melaka recently.
Nancy said six countries in Asia have been identified and targetted for the tourism bubble: Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, China and Brunei.
However, she added that the reopening of international borders was still subject to the decision from the federal government, as they would have to assess the current Covid-19 situation. – BERNAMA
