PETALING JAYA: PAS says it will continue to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin after Umno said yesterday it had withdrawn support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government.
“Currently, PAS stands firm in its decision to continue to support the Perikatan Nasional government and the leadership of Muhyiddin Yassin. Together, we can focus on tackling the spread of Covid-19 through the national recovery plan (PPN) strategy being mobilised by the government,” said the party in a statement.
“PAS is also committed to continue helping the rakyat who are currently facing difficult times. Therefore, it is hoped that all Malaysians are patient and will cooperate towards efforts to address Covid-19.”
Umno’s announcement yesterday that it had withdrawn support for the PN-led government comes barely a month after it officially retracted support for Muhyiddin as prime minister.
The move leaves the PN government, which is heavily dependent on Umno’s support, on the verge of collapse – with Umno and opposition MPs declaring that Muhyiddin has lost his parliamentary majority.
At least 11 MPs were understood to have made declarations that have been sent to the King that they were withdrawing their support for the prime minister.
While Muhyiddin met the King today for a weekly pre-Cabinet meeting, it is uncertain whether it is related to the latest political developments.-FMT
