PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has decreed that the issue involving Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s remarks during a speech has yet to be resolved despite an apology tendered.

In a statement by the Selangor Royal Office, it said the decision was made following separate audiences granted by the Sultan to state PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan at Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam.

“They discussed the statement issued by Muhammad Sanusi in one of his talks in Selangor recently, which was considered to have insulted the Selangor royal institution.

“His Majesty has addressed that this matter has not been resolved,” it said in a statement on Monday (July 17).

Muhammad Sanusi, who is Jeneri assemblyman and PAS national election director, had issued his apology to Sultan Sharafuddin on Friday with an explanation of how his speech was “spun” to defame him.

He said a letter was sent to the Selangor palace as he needed to explain his side of the story to the Ruler and claimed that parts of his speech on July 11 in the state were “deliberately twisted”.

Police reports were lodged against Muhammad Sanusi for allegedly belittling the Sultan of Selangor for having appointed Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Mentri Besar.

However, de facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said an apology did not amount to a legal defence in law.
