PETALING JAYA: A total of 397 areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will be facing water cuts from 10am after an accident on a highway led to chemical pollution in Pahang’s Sungai Semantan.
Air Selangor said the accident occurred on Km75.9 of the Karak-Bentong highway, with chemical pollution in the river forcing it to halt operations of its Langat 2 water treatment plant at 4.30am.
It said users in 172 areas in Kuala Lumpur, 222 in Hulu Langat, and three in Petaling will experience water cuts.
The full list of affected areas can be found here.
In a statement, Air Selangor said the Langat 2 plant is expected to resume operations at 3.30pm today, with treated water to be restored to users in stages once its system stabilises.
“Water tankers will be mobilised to users, with critical premises prioritised. Air Selangor is taking every measure to minimise the impact of this disruption to affected users,” it said.
It said further updates on the incident will be made from time to time, with users advised to seek the latest information on its social media accounts.
Queries and complaints may also be directed to its help centre at its website or the Air Selangor phone app.-FMT
