PETALING JAYA: Despite fears of a total lockdown with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, all indications are that the government is not likely to implement a full nationwide lockdown.
According to sources, the government made the decision against a total lockdown after listening to views from stakeholders today.
Most industry representatives were totally against a lockdown like in MCO 1.0, which saw a near shutdown of all operations in the country except for essential services and industries.
However, one source said most were in favour of a much stricter SOPs implementation and EMCOs based on localities, without any compromise.
“There was an impassioned plea for ways to expedite the national vaccination programme, with the industries pledging to help,’ said the source.
Another source said industries have been told to play a more important role to practise and encourage working from home to avoid direct contacts as much as possible.
“The fewer the number of people moving around, the better. They were told it is better to lock ourselves at home if possible, to break the chain.”-FMT
