PETALING JAYA: The Opposition will give its full support to the National Covid-19 Immunisation Plan by the Government, says the Pakatan Harapan Immunisation Committee.
The committee said the success of the immunisation plan is vital for economic recovery, to lower the number of infections, and to improve people’s lives.
“Pakatan will support the efforts of the Health Ministry in the National Immunisation Plan. The Pakatan state governments, MPs and state assemblymen will give their cooperation and support to the Health Ministry to make this programme a success as this crosses politics.
“The Pakatan Immunisation Committee has studied the National Covid-19 Immunisation Plan launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and welcomes the Government’s plan to implement the immunisation programme,” the committee said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 16).
It also said that the Government and Opposition must work together as the success of the immunisation plan was vital.
“We also urge that representatives of the Pakatan MPs be included in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Plan committee to show that this is a bipartisan effort and in the interests of the country,” the committee said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Muhyiddin announced that the first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine would arrive in the country on Feb 21 and the rollout of the Immunisation Plan would begin on Feb 26.
Almost 27 million, or over 80%, of Malaysia’s population are expected to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by the first quarter of 2022.
“An immunisation programme for 80% of the Malaysian adults or a vaccination of 66.7 million doses is not an easy task.
“We urge the Government to prepare enough immunisation centres for both citizens and non-citizens especially in the rural areas and interiors of the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak,” said the committee.
The statement was signed by committee head Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who was also the former health minister under the Pakatan government.- The Star
