Football fans detained over ruckus in M’sia-Indonesia WC qualifier

KUALA LUMPUR: Several football supporters were temporarily detained by the police during the 2022 World Cup-2023 Asia Cup Group G qualifier between Malaysia and Indonesia at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday (Nov 19).

“After the match was over, the police detained 27 Malaysian supporters and 14 Indonesian supporters.

“They were detained for documentation purposes.

“All were released after documentation was conducted,” said Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon on Wednesday (Nov 20).

A video of flares being thrown at Malaysian supporters within the stadium have been making the rounds on social media.

It is still unclear which side provoked the other first.

Malaysia went on to beat Indonesia 2-0 after winger Safawi Rasid scored twice to seal the match.
