Among the offences was desertion, in the case of a policeman who had not reported for duty since Oct 27.

Another case highlighted by Comm Saiful was the arrest of three policemen who had extorted RM10,000 from a victim.

He said the trio were pursuing a car carrying three men, which ensued after the vehicle was stopped on Jalan Imbi on Dec 7.

“Two suspects escaped but one was arrested. This was caught on video but no record of an arrest was found, ” he said in a press conference at the contingent headquarters here on Wednesday (Dec 16).

The three policemen involved were later arrested.

Another incident on Dec 8 saw the arrest of two policemen in a hotel in Brickfields after a narcotics raid.

“Of the four arrested, two were policemen. A gun was also found in a bag together with a permit for possession of a firearm” he said, adding that the gun was purchased in a neighbouring country in 2008.

“It is believed that one of the arrested policemen was also dealing in drugs and the rest acted as his accomplices, ” he said. – THE STAR
