PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has told the agencies under the Transport Ministry to solve the issues of “lori hantu” affecting road users close to the Mesa Mall in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
The Transport Minister had in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12), noted a letter by an Utusan Malaysia reader who highlighted the problem of lori hantu.
The reader, Prof Dr Nuradli Ridwan Shah, had said that the lorries could be a cause of accidents as they tended to make u-turns from the left lane of the road even though there were vehicles on the right lane.
The reader said that he himself was involved in an accident because of this and hoped that action would be taken against the owners of companies that did not adhere to the law.
“I take note of public complaints related to the portfolio of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia such as the concerns raised by the reader of the Utusan Malaysia newspaper today.
“I have requested the relevant agencies under the Ministry to immediately help address this issue and further prevent unwanted incidents from happening, ” said Dr Wee.
Lori hantu is an unregistered lorry that operates at construction sites and as they do not pay road tax, are not allowed on public roads. -The Star
