Covid-19 Watch: 599 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 63.3%

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 599 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (April 6), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,052,337 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 595 of Thursday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while four imported infections were logged.

There were 357 recoveries logged on Thursday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 5,004,043 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 11,312 active cases currently in the country, with 10,841, or 95.8%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 458 patients, or 4% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 13, with nine of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 63.3%, with nine states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 85.7%, followed by Johor (79.5%), Melaka (76.8%), Selangor (73.5%), Kedah (71.8%), Terengganu (71.4%), Kuala Lumur (67.6%), Kelantan (65.8%) and Perak (62.1%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there was one Covid-19 death reported on Thursday, which was recorded as ‘brought in dead’.
