Covid-19 Watch: 3,934 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 60.6pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,934 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (July 13), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,604,670 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 3,927 of Wednesday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while seven imported infections were logged.

There were 2,747 recoveries on Wednesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,531,948 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 36,894 active cases currently in the country, with 35,547, or 96.3%, observing home quarantine and 26 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The CovidNow portal reported that 1,321 patients, or 3.58% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 53, with 30 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 60.6%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kelantan had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 79.7%, followed by Selangor (77.2%), Kedah (74.7%), Putrajaya (70%), Sabah (65.2%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%), Negri Sembilan (61.2%) and Johor (60.3%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that nine Covid-19 deaths were reported on Wednesday including two classified as Brought in Dead.
