PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,469 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (May 17), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,481,278 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 1,466 of Tuesday’s new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there were three imported cases.
The portal also reported that recoveries outstripped new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, with 1,836 individuals recovering from their infections.
The CovidNow portal said there were currently 30,509 active cases in the country, with 29,271 Covid-19 patients, or 95.9% of active cases, observing home quarantine while 20 have been admitted to Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres.
There are currently 1,182 Covid-19 patients admitted to hospital with 36 individuals being treated in intensive care units nationwide.
Of the ICU admission, 17 require ventilator support while 19 are unventilated.
The CovidNow portal also reported that Malaysia’s overall ICU utlisation rate stood at 57%, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 5.9%.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported that there were three deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country to 35,623 since the pandemic began.
The three Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday were reported in Kedah, Perlis and Melaka.-The Star
