KUALA TERENGGANU: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed utilisation rate involving Covid-19 patients in the state has reached an alarming level of 84 per cent as of today.
State Health Department director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said the increase in ICU beds utilisation rates was contributed by the rise of Category Five Covid-19 patients since two weeks ago.
“We did expect the cases to rise after interstate movement was allowed and after Terengganu transitioned into Phase Four (under the National Recovery Plan),” she told reporters after attending the handing ceremony of the hybrid ICU ward at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here today.
With a capacity of 10 beds, the hybrid ICU ward will start to be used next week.
There are 43 ICU beds in the state including the ones available at the hybrid ICU ward.
On a related matter, Dr Kasemani said it was expected that 324,000 people including some 30,000 medical and healthcare frontliners in the state will be administered with Covid-19 booster shots.
Apart from frontliners under the Health Minister and other ministries, she said senior citizens age 60 and above as well as people with comorbidities will receive their appointment dates for the booster dose via the MySejahtera app.-BERNAMA
