MELAKA: Another school in rural Melaka is to be closed for a week after the mother of two students of SMK Simpang Bekoh tested positive for Covid-19.
Bemban assemblyman Datuk Dr Wong Fort Pin said the secondary school in Jasin was asked to close for a week starting Monday (Oct 19) until Oct 25.
He said swab tests had been done on the two students on Sunday (Oct 18).
Dr Wong said the siblings are in Form 3 and Form 5, respectively at the school.
He said the students’ mother is a frontliner and is believed to have contracted the virus while at work.
“I will be visiting the school later in the afternoon to provide face masks to students. As the assemblyman for the area, I will render my support as the case involves a nurse at a government clinic,” he said in an interview on Monday.
Dr Wong said there are 516 students and 80 teachers in the school.
He added all of them will undergo swab tests.
The two other schools currently closed in rural Melaka are SMK Lubok China and Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Berembang at Masjid Tanah in Alor Gajah.
Both the schools were ordered to close on Oct 15 after two students from the respective schools tested positive for Covid-19. -The Star
