SUNGAI PETANI, Jan 6 — An elderly couple died after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident at Kilometre 65.5 of Jalan Alor Setar-Butterworth near Padang Tembusu near here at about 8.30 pm last night.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah said Mat Kassim Mat Isa, 61, and Azizah Mohamad, 60, of Kampung Pantai Perai near here were said to be on their way from Tikam Batu to Permatang Gedong.
“The victims’ motorcycle was believed to have stopped at a junction to turn right before a Perodua Kembara which could not stop on time due to the slippery road crashed into them.
“The motorcycle fell into the opposite lane and collided with another two cars, a Toyota Vios and a Proton Iswara. The man died at the scene while his wife passed away while being treated at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH),” he said in a statement here today.
According to him, the bodies of both victims were brought to HSAH forensic unit for post-mortem.
He said investigation would be conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.- BERNAMA
