PETALING JAYA: A total of 150 construction sites have been slapped with stop-work orders since June 1 for failing to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19, says the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
The board added that 11 sites have since been allowed to re-open after implementing the SOP.
Of the 150 sites ordered closed, CIDB said that Sarawak recorded the highest number with 45 sites followed by Selangor (24), Melaka (16), Penang (10), Terengganu (10), Sabah (9), Johor (7), Kuala Lumpur (6), Pahang (6), Perak (5), Kedah (4), Negeri Sembilan (4), Perlis (3) and one in Kelantan.
It added that the sites allowed to reopen were in Terengganu (4), Melaka (3), Johor (2), Kedah (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).
CIDB also said that it has carried out checks on 2,423 construction sites nationwide since the start of the current lockdown, adding that 1,977 were not operational.
Meanwhile, the CIDB said that a construction site in Seremban, Negri Sembilan was ordered to cease operations immediately on Tuesday (June 22) after flouting the SOP by allowing more than 60% of its workers to work on site.
A two-week lockdown was initially implemented on June 1 and was subsequently extended to an additional two-week lockdown.
Essential and critical services have been allowed to operate under strict SOP.
Among the restrictions was that 80% of government staff and 40% of the private sector will work from home as one of the strategies to flatten the Covid-19 curve.-The Star
