Cabinet committee meeting to tackle traffic jams postponed to May

SEPANG: The first meeting of the Cabinet committee to resolve traffic congestion has been postponed to next month, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

He said deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who will chair the committee, was unable to hold the meeting this month.

“The first meeting will take place early next month, on May 2,” he said at a press conference here today.

On March 16, Loke had said the committee would hold its first meeting this month.

He had said the move to set up the committee showed the government’s seriousness in resolving traffic congestion.

The committee will consist of various ministries and will look into more comprehensive steps to tackle traffic jams.

Loke also said public transport will be given priority and Putrajaya will continue to enhance and develop public transport networks to alleviate traffic congestion. – FMT
