Burglar caught red-handed in Penang

KEPALA BATAS: A burglar was caught red-handed by two civic-minded residents after he broke into a house in the Bertam Perdana residential area here on Monday (Feb 3).

North Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said in the 11.30am incident, a houseowner received a call from his neighbours informing him that a suspicious-looking man was in his compound.

“The complainant, who was at work, told his neighbours to keep an eye on the suspect while he lodged a police report,” he said in a statement.

A viral social media post shows a picture of the suspect with his hands around back to his motorcycle.

Asst Comm Noorzainy said the suspect rode his motorcycle in to the house compound as the gate was unlocked.

Investigations also revealed that the suspect, who acted alone, entered the house through the door and stole some jewellery from a cupboard in one the rooms.

He said that two neighbours foiled the suspect’s escape and handed him over to the police.

“We also recovered the jewellery worth about RM4000 from the suspect,” he said.

He added that the suspect who, was positive for methamphetamine use, had a previous criminal and drug record.
