KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pas have pledged to strengthen their cooperation to face the 15th General Election (GE15).
In a joint statement yesterday, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and his counterpart in Pas, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said both parties were adamant in rejecting any form of ‘new alignment’ to form in the post-GE15 government, especially involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its allies.
They said the decision was made during a meeting between Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang on yesterday.
The meeting was held to discuss strategic cooperation in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“Bersatu and Pas are always committed to strengthening the unity of the Muslim and the diverse community.
“We are also ready to work with any party that supports the same vision, and reject any attempt to disintegrate the unity and subsequently undermine the PN government.”
In the statement, both also announced that Bersatu and Pas, as among the founding members of PN, will form a central meeting committee to formulate the strategies for GE15, including seat distribution.
“All the decisions reached via the committee will be presented to the coalition’s leadership council for collective finalisation among all component parties.”
The two also called for all Malay, Islam, and Bumiputera associations, as well as Malaysians who love the country to be united and jointly fight for the future of Malaysia.-NST
