Bersatu now has six of Perikatan’s supreme council seats, says Azmin

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) now dominates posts in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) supreme council ahead of the upcoming Sabah state election and the 16th General Election (PRU16).

In a statement, Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the party’s supreme council meeting has confirmed Bersatu’s Srikandi (women’s wing) chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as Perikatan women’s chief.

Azmin said Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also announced the appointment of himself as the Perikatan secretary-general and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perikatan information chief.

“Bersatu has named three leaders to sit on the Perikatan supreme council in line with the results of the recent Bersatu elections, namely Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Perikatan deputy chairman while Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee are members,” Azmin said after the Perikatan supreme council meeting on Monday (Dec 9).

The meeting chaired by Muhyiddin was also attended by all party presidents of component parties such as PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai and Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) president Punithan Paramsiven.

According to Azmin, the meeting also discussed the current political developments in Sabah, and decided that Perikatan would participate in the upcoming state election to be held no later than November 2025.

“Sabah Perikatan has been given the responsibility to make preparations and discuss in formulating a strategy to form a new government in the state.

“The Perikatan supreme council also accepted the establishment of the Policy and Strategy Department which plays a role in all strategic issues and strategic action plans as well as being responsible for surveys related to current national issues,” said Azmin.
