PETALING JAYA: Foreign minister Saifuddin Abdullah has conveyed Malaysia’s condolences over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Malaysia extends (its) sincere condolences to the monarch’s family, the people and the government of the United Kingdom on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Her Majesty was a towering figure and led a lifetime of dedication and service to the people of the UK and the Commonwealth.”
Queen Elizabeth, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at the age of 96 at her Scottish home, Balmoral Castle, yesterday.
She had been suffering from what Buckingham Palace has called “episodic mobility problems” since the end of last year.
Her 70-year reign made her the modern world’s longest-serving monarch. Only France’s Louis XIV – who ruled for more than 72 years between 1643 and 1715 – has ruled for longer.
Her eldest son Charles, 73, automatically becomes king of the United Kingdom.-FMT
