PETALING JAYA: The much-touted online talk featuring Tan Sri Tommy Thomas (pic) and lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla tonight (Feb 9) is not happening.

The former attorney general has declined to participate, saying that he only received the invite on Monday (Feb 8) night.

“I refer to your letter dated Feb 6, which was only brought to my attention last night.

“I am declining your invitation to participate in your programme scheduled for 8.30pm tonight,” he said in an e-mail reply to the organiser and operations director of Jom Channel, Mohamad Ali Omar.

Haniff had earlier invited Thomas to participate in an online dialogue titled “Between politics and law” to discuss his recently released book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.

The book has triggered a firestorm of reactions including police reports and lawsuits.

Haniff, who is a regular guest on the programme, added that although the show was usually held in Bahasa Malaysia, they would make an exception in this case.

Thomas also said a poster of the event that had gone viral on WhatsApp was false.

“Separately, I received from many sources the enclosed WhatsApp image.

“This is totally false. I would like you to take immediate action to issue a corrective WhatsApp image and to circulate it widely,” said Thomas.- The Star
