Teenage girl injured in attempted murder at school in Perak

IPOH: A secondary schoolgirl was injured after a mentally unstable man drove his car into a school compound and rammed into her in Taman Bintang, Manjung.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the 13-year-old victim sustained injuries to her left leg and is currently receiving treatment at Seri Manjung Hospital following the incident, which occurred around 5:30pm on Wednesday (Oct 23).

“The 47-year-old man, driving a white car, crashed through the gate of a basketball court, damaging it, before heading towards the school building,” said ACP Hasbullah in a statement.

“He then drove towards the school hall, where a group of students were practising volleyball, and rammed into the victim before fleeing the scene.”

ACP Hasbullah confirmed that the man, who is unemployed, was arrested around 6:30pm the same day.

“The suspect has been referred to the hospital for treatment, as he was found to be mentally unstable. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.”

He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Nur Munawara Ahmad at 011-1624 0391 or the district police station at 05-688 6222 to assist in the investigation.
