PETALING JAYA: Four water treatment plants at Sungai Selangor are back in operation after having to shut down Monday (Dec 7) night due to contamination of the raw water supply, with unscheduled water cuts expected to affect 1,274 areas in the Klang Valley.
Earlier, Air Selangor said the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant stopped operations at 11.30pm Monday while as well as Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plants had to stop at 1am on Tuesday (Dec 8).
In a Facebook post early Tuesday morning, Air Selangor said the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant had started operating at 3.30am, while Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plant was back in action at 5am Tuesday after recording three consecutive readings of 0 TON (Threshold Odour Number).
“The water treatment plants were closed following raw water pollution detected in Sungai Selangor.
“The halt in the operations caused unscheduled water cuts in 1,274 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat, ” Air Selangor said in its Facebook post early Tuesday.
While the treatment plants are operating again, Air Selangor did not give any indication on how this would affect the water supply.
