AMPANG: Malaysians have been urged to stop politicking and instead support Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in helping the economy grow further, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
The Economic Affairs Minister said the world is facing challenges due to the Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak, which will also affect the Malaysian economy.
He said Malaysia, however, has taken the right, proactive and effective measures to tackle the outbreak.
Azmin said the tourism industry together with other sectors such as aviation and logistics have also been affected.
“However, the government will introduce an economic stimulus package soon to ensure the additional funds can help with cash flow and assist these sectors,” he said in his speech at the Chinese New Year open house organised by Ampang lawmaker Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister, on Sunday (Feb 16).
Also present was PKR leader Tian Chua.
Azmin said Malaysians should instead come together and support Dr Mahathir to help bring the economy forward.
“Let’s stop all the politicking. Malaysians are often discussing about politics but let’s all focus in developing the country and the economy.
“Let’s give a strong support to Dr Mahathir so he can lead us and this year, when the Apec (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) takes place, Malaysia will emerge as a global player (economically),” he said.
Azmin also said he was happy to see a multiracial crowd at the event, adding that this has always been Malaysia’s unique strength.
He also said he is proud to see Malaysians rejecting hate politics, and embracing peace, unity and harmony. – The Star
