S’pore records highest number of daily cases since start of pandemic

SINGAPORE: More than 3,000 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Singapore on Tuesday, the highest since the pandemic began last year.

The ministry of health said 2,767 of the 3,486 new cases were reported in the community, 713 in the migrant worker dormitories and six were imported cases.

It said 1,512 cases were currently warded in hospital, with 247 requiring respiratory assistance and 34 in the intensive care unit.

Singapore’s multi-ministerial taskforce said the number of new cases could hit 5,000 a day in two weeks, with the vast majority asymptomatic or having mild symptoms.

The ministry said nine more deaths were also reported on Tuesday, all involving elderly Singaporeans or permanent residents, with three of them unvaccinated against Covid-19 and two partially vaccinated.

The death toll now numbers 130.

The total caseload stands at 109,804 with 23,463 active cases.-BERNAMA
