KUANTAN, Dec 3 — A settler was killed after the backhoe he was driving overturned while passing through a hilly road in a plantation at Felda Keratong 7, Muadzam Shah, about 120 kilometres from here, yesterday.

Rompin district police chief ASP Azari Miskon said the victim, Abd Hadi Ramlan, 64, who was crushed by the backhoe, was confirmed dead at the scene in the incident at 5.30 pm.

“The victim, who owned the backhoe, was understood to have gone to the plantation to help to extricate a lorry which had bogged down.

“However, the backhoe suddenly went out of control while passing along an uneven stretch of road and overturned, crushing him,” he said when contacted, here, today.

Azari said the body was sent to the Muadzam Shah Hospital for a post mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said. – BERNAMA
