PUTRAJAYA: The first group of foreign workers from Bangladesh has arrived and will be employed in the manufacturing sector, says Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
They arrived on Tuesday (Aug 9) morning.
Saravanan, however, did not mention the number of workers from Bangladesh who arrived today.
“Workers from Bangladesh are expected to arrive in Malaysia in stages beginning today.
“Last week, the Bangladesh High Commission had attested applications for workers from 80 employers involving 6,000 Bangladeshis,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 9).
Saravanan said employers planning to hire workers from Bangladesh and have already made levy payments to the Immigration Department can apply for employment attestation with the Bangladesh High Commission to Malaysia.
On July 15, the ministry said that the recruitment process for Bangladeshi workers could begin after previous technical issues have been resolved.
Last December, Malaysia and Bangladesh signed a MOU on the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia, effective until December 2026. — The Star
