PETALING JAYA: Authorities have urged anyone who had been to two wet markets in Petaling Jaya to go for Covid-19 screening.
Petaling District Disaster Management Committee chairman Johary Anuar said anyone who visited the Jalan Othman market between April 5 and 18 and purchased seafood should go to the Taman Medan or Kelana Jaya government clinic for screening.
Similarly, those who may have come into contact with vegetable sellers at the Taman Megah market in SS24 between April 11 and 25 should undergo screening at the two clinics, he said.
“Those who have symptoms may go for the screening anytime,” he added.
Two traders, one each at the Jalan Othman and Taman Megah markets, have been warded for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, screening for traders will be held at the two markets today and tomorrow. There are 578 traders in the Old Town market and 60 in the Taman Megah market.
Yesterday, authorities shut down the wet market at Jalan Othman, popularly known as “Old Town market”, after a 51-year old trader from the seafood section was found positive with Covid-19 over the weekend.
The trader is believed to be part of the Selayang wholesale market Covid-19 cluster.
Earlier, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) sealed the Taman Megah market for disinfection after a vegetable trader was found to be Covid-19 positive.
“Both markets will be closed for at least five days,” said Johary. – FMT
