JOHOR BARU: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli will not be contesting in Johor in the 15th General Election (GE15).
He said his appointment as the Johor State Leadership Council (MPN) chairman does not mean that he will contest in the state but rather to enable the party to coordinate the GE15 campaign.
“I will not be contesting in Johor, that is final. The PKR leadership’s decision to appoint me as the Johor MPN chairman is to lead Johor PKR, not to contest here.
“Among the central leadership, I have the longest record of cooperating with the leadership and branches in Johor.
“This situation would make it easier for us to coordinate our GE15 campaign in Johor,” said Rafizi after a Johor MPN meeting at the state PKR headquarters last night.
Also present were PKR strategic director Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Johor PKR chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Pasir Gudang member of parliament Hassan Abdul Karim.
Rumours had been circulating that the former Pandan member of Parliament will contest in Johor after he was appointed as the Federal Territories and Johor MPN on Aug 3.
The rumours said Rafizi would be contesting either in Johor Baru or Batu Pahat, which are PKR strongholds.-NST
