KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Drones have once again become the “eyes” for authorities, especially the Royal Malaysia Police to monitor the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance at Ramadan bazaars around the capital.

A Bernama check at the Desa Pandan Ramadan bazaar this evening found that drone operations were used to monitor movements, as well as to give warnings and reminders to visitors through loudspeakers attached to the drones.

Video and images recorded will be viewed at the drone unit’s operations centre which has been set up to monitor the movement of visitors at the bazaar.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP, Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, when contacted, said that the monitoring using drones, as well as the presence of policemen at the Ramdan bazaar would continue until Aidilfitri.

“Today, there are not many visitors compared with during holidays and weekends, however the police are still tightening control at all bazaar entrances to ensure physical distancing is complied with,” he said.

On May 1, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that police used drones to monitor SOP compliance at Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars around the Klang Valley.-BERNAMA
