SEPANG: A man was arrested during a district-wide security operation for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Perak and riding it in neighbouring Selangor with a fake licence plate, police said.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the arrest took place amid the New Year operations on January 1, which saw 141 police personnel conducting crime prevention patrols and roadblocks at nine locations.

“Our team checked 475 individuals and 394 vehicles, issuing 56 summonses for various traffic offences,” he told reporters after a meet-and-greet session at the Sepang district police headquarters.

Police grew suspicious of a man on a motorcycle at one of the roadblocks and, upon inspection, discovered the fake licence plates.

They later determined the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Teluk Intan, Perak.

The suspect, from Perak, told police he had come to Sepang looking for work. He was arrested and handed over to Hilir Perak police for further investigation.

“We will continue these operations regularly to ensure public order and safety in the district,” Norhizam said.
